NEW after school club at RAWLINS
Mixed Media Masterpieces Autumn 2012
A six week course for children and young people run by Hayley Fern, community arts development manager at Rawlins College.
Using design skills, painting on fabric, wire work and mixed media each participant will create a unique piece of art of or a functional item from a choice of suggestions in 2D and 3D. We will learn about colour, texture and a range of techniques: a unique course for all ages and abilities.
13 September Landscape project Looking at the handmade paper collage work of artist Dawn Ackerman, each participant will create a framed landscape collage using texture, colour and composition skills.
20 September Earthworks sculpture Inspired by earth artist Michel Arnold each participant will create a found objects standing sculpture utilising natural objects, fixing techniques and shape awareness.
27 September Art book Taking inspiration from Denise Lach, Maggie Grey, Jane Wild, Kay Greenlees and Beryl Taylor we will create a series of experimental ‘leaves’ using print, paint, fabric, paper and wire.
4 October Art book continued Continuing the ‘art book’ project we will use wire, threads and binding techniques to create a book which showcases our mixed media experiments and provides an inspiration resource for the future.
11 October Boxes and threads Dawn Ackerman’s abstract collage with threads forms the basis of part one of this small project using card, tissues and textiles. Step 1: form the 6 sides.
18 October Boxes and threads continued Step 2: make the 6 sides into a small box, lining with black velvet and, if time, making a small item for inside using origami techniques with printed paper for a unique gift.
Please note: although these activities are not too messy, old clothes or an apron is advisable. Aprons will be provided.
