Gifted artists at St Bartholomew's produce sculptures

Inspired by Andy Goldsworthy these two groups had wood, clay and paint as well as their talent, skill and imagination when creating two sculptural artefacts for the SOAR friendship project. Based on the Olympic values, these pieces are to be varnished before beiong passed to another school.

Art Club- Autumn term- what's to come!

Autumn term, Hayley Fern Mixed-media Masterpiece- a six week course (Thursday 13 September – Thursday 18 October) Using design skills, painting on fabric, wire work and mixed media each participant will create a unique piece of art of or a functional item from a choice of suggestions in 2D and 3D. We will learn about colour, texture and a range of techniques. A unique course. Plaster plates and plaques- a six week course (Thursday 1 November – Thursday 6 December) This unusual technique uses clay, found objects and plaster of Paris to cast shapes into a mould into which plaster of Paris is poured. Once set, paint techniques can be applied to age and decorate the piece. We will produce at least two of these works of art during the six week course.

St Bartholomew's Primary- 'Clay Seeds of Value'

Yesterday marked phase one of a two day project at St Bartholomew's Primary school in Quorn, working with every single one of the 318 children there. Each class came out to my outdoor studio in the sunshine to make a single clay seed which they then engraved with a symbol, picture or word which represented either one of the Olympic values or the spirit of the Olympic values combined. Images ranged from hearts to represent friendship, smiling faces to represent equality and stars to represent excellence. After painting, these seeds will become part of a permanent installation at the school.

Being Warhol

Thinking about Andy Warhol's use of everyday objects and clean, bright colours, my group painted in acrylic and used black outlines to achieve the screen-printed look of a Warhol. The after school club 'Be the Artist' includes children aged from 5 to 14 and challenges each individual to be more creative. For each artist we have a quiz about them and prizes!

Being Miro

This week, Joan Miro was the inspiration behind a series of drawings and paintings on stretched calico and cotton fabric. Using Miro's lines and shapes and experimenting with felt tips and watercolours, silk paints and acrylics on fabric made for a colourful and exciting session.

June ART CAMP- bookings now being taken. June 6, 7, 8. Two groups- 5 to 7 years (the Picassos) and 8 + (the Dalis) with age appropriate activities to generate creativity and enjoyment. The Picassos will be inventing indoor bowling sets, designing bespoke sun visors and sunglasses, creating wire garden pets, dreaming up crazy multi-coloured bugs and sewing animal puppets. The Dalis are going to explore multi-cultural pattern and design, experiment with watercolour painting, create mixed media landscapes and be inspired by patterns in nature. They will be book binding, using number sequences to invent unique patterns and sew a chicken! Where else could you find this kind of variety?
